FAQs
-
How do I make a booking? We arrange a meet and greet to discuss your needs and make sure that we are best suited to help you with your pet's requirements. Registration paperwork is sent out for completion and signatures. Once the registration process is complete, bookings can be made either via email, text or phone. We offer REGULAR or BESPOKE booking options. If you select a REGULAR booking schedule, your booking will continue automatically until you cancel the arrangement. This guarantees that you pet always has a scheduled space with us, but it does become your responsibility to cancel or adjust the booking within the cancellation policy. Bespoke bookings are accepted also, but are subject to availability and we may already be full if you leave your bookings to the last moment.
-
What happens if I need to cancel a booking? If you need to cancel a booking, please telephone or email us as soon as possible. If your booking is cancelled at short notice and is not covered by the cancellation policy, you may still be charged for your booking. Please ensure that you read and understand our cancellation policy, and ask us if you have any questions.
-
I dont have a spare key. Can you pick up a key before the day of service? We are happy to collect keys at the meet and greet, or just before the first day of service. If you do not wish for us to retain a key, a charge is made for future collections and drop offs, or you can bring the key to us before the first day of each booked service period.
-
How do I make Payment? You will be invoiced for your booked services at the end of each calendar month. Igoe Dog Walking accepts payment by cash or bank transfer. Bank details can be found at the bottom of each issued invoice.
-
Will my dog always have the same walker?Yes; all dogs and walkers need to build a relationship based on trust, so unless there is unexpected sickness or prearranged holiday your dog will always have the same walker.
-
Do dogs need to be vaccinated?Yes; we ask that all dogs be fully vaccinated, wormed and have regular flea treatments this also includes having the kennel cough inoculation. Your dog will meet a variety of dogs when out on their group walks and will also come across wildlife, so vaccination is important.
-
Do you need keys?Yes please. Even though you maybe at home most of the day there will always be a time when you have popped out when we turn up to collect your dog. If you are only going to be using services occasionally and don’t wish to leave a key with us, we are happy to collect a key from you during the meet and greet - but for future services you will either need to drop the key off to us or I can collect for a small fee. Your keys are covered under my business insurance and are kept in a safe while in our care.
-
What do I need to leave out for walks?Your dog should have its normal walking equipment, collar and a harness if one is worn. We use our own leads, these are variable length training leads and are very comfortable to hold when walking four dogs. We will supply the poop bags and treats for during and after the walk unless your dog has a medical condition; in this case we would ask you to supply treats that your dog is safe to have.
-
What do you need to know about my dog?We need to know about your dogs general behaviour, their level of training and their preferred training style. These questions are asked to ensure that we fit them into the best group for their play style, experience and learning skills. For instance, if your dog loves the ball but becomes possessive we may not put your dog on a walk with other ball lovers as that could trigger an avoidable conflict.
-
I have several pets in the house. Do you charge more to take care of multiple pets? No, it is a standard charge for the visit. You are paying for a period of time, so if all the pets can be taken care of within the time period there is no extra fee. If you have too many pets for a standard short visit, we may suggest a longer one or talk about a bespoke visit length to make sure that all needs are covered. Please contact us for a personalised quote.
-
Can you walk my dog as part of a Home Visit? We can pop them around a short block for no longer than 10 minutes in the event that they do not have a garden (or wont 'go' in the garden). If you require walks for longer than 10 minutes you would need to talk to us about booking a Solo Walk from your home.
-
I want to leave my dogs at home overnight. Can I use this service? No, I am afraid not. We would ask you to use our overnight pet sitting service or consider using a home boarder (we can help you to find one). Our company policy does not allow for dogs to be left unattended in a property overnight.
-
I havent used a service like this before, how does it work?"The Pet Sitting service is a way for your pet to stay at home and in their own environment. This is especially good for nervous, anxious dogs or if you have a large number of pets in your home. I will be with your pets overnight from the date of departure to the date of your return, looking after them as you would.
-
What services are provided while I am away?We walk your dog and cover all of the regular dog care tasks such as feeding and cuddles. Cats, depending whether they are indoor or outdoor are let in and out, fed, watered and litter trays changed. All standard pet care applies for bunnies, other small furries and fish too. We not only look after your pets, but also will water your plants (indoor and outdoor) and ensure the basic running of the house is continued. An added advantage of the Pet Sitting service is that from a security perspective someone is around and the house continues to look 'lived in'.
-
What if my pet is unwell while I am away? After our initial meeting you will be sent paperwork asking you to inform your vet that in your absence, Igoe Dog Walking will be in charge of the care for the pets in your home. Should anything happen while you are away we will immediatley contact you to check what next steps you wish to take and will follow them as instructed. In the event that we cannot contact you we will use our judgement on the treatment for your pet and treat them as if they were one of our own. In acordance with your registration form, we will update you on the progress of your pet's condition until you return.
-
How long will my pet be left alone during the day?Assuming that there is a dog in your house (there is not always!), your dog will be left alone for a maximum of 4 hours at any given period. Your dog will accompany us on one of our early walks to break up the morning, and if they are fit enough they may join another walk in the afternoon. If two walks is too much, we will pop in and check on your dog and give bathroom breaks instead of a second walk and we will be back at the end of the days walks and visits. As cats and small furries are often less dependant on human company through the day, they will get our full attention in the evening and we will go through any exercise routines that you have requested at this point.
-
Can I use this service if I have a lodger or a teenager staying behind in the house? It becomes difficult to be fully responsible for your pets and property when sharing the premises with other parties, the boundaries of responsibility and liability become blurred. We would prefer under these circumstances that the Home Visit and Walking service be used rather than staying with someone in the house, however we are always happy to discuss your individual circumstances with you to see if we can help.
-
Can I book the taxi service for collection immediatley? This is generally a pre-booked service so we may not be able to help you immediatley, but you are welcome to call and check if we have availability after walks are complete.
-
I dont drive. Can you take me as well as my pet?I am afraid not, pet taxis are generally only insured to transport animals and are not allowed to transport their owners. You are welcome to take a regular taxi and meet us at the destination if you wish.
-
If you go with my pet to an appointment, do you charge waiting time?"We charge a set rate per 15 minutes and it is the same whether we are driving or waiting. If it takes 15 minutes to get to the appointment, 30 minutes waiting and then 15 minutes to get home that totals 60 minutes of service.
-
What are the Day Care opening hours?Day Care is open 7:00am–7:00pm. Collections from your home take place between 8:00am and 9:00am. Drop offs at your home take place between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Igoe Dog Walking need a key if you would like your to be dog collected and dropped off. Owners may drop dogs off by prior arrangement between 7:00am and 7:45am. Owners may collect the dogs by prior arrangement between 5:30pm and 7:00pm.
-
Does my dog have to be insured? We prefer that dogs are insured, however this is not mandatory. Please note that it is your responsibility to settle or reimburse charges for any treatment or veterinary care on your return.
-
What happens if I am late collecting? We understand that things happen, heavy traffic and delayed business flights. You are able to collect your dog between 7:00pm and 8:00pm but there will be an additional charge. Alternatively, if you let us know during the day (and we have a key) we may be able to add your dog to the drop off route for the afternoon. After 8:00pm your dog will be transferred to our Home Boarding service and you will be able to collect your dog the next day (assuming that we have space available). This will incur an additional fee. If we do not have space available, we ask that you make arrangements for a friend or family member to collect your dog for you.
-
Does my dog have to be vaccinated?Yes. Your dog will be in contact with the resident dog, other family dogs and the dogs that they meet whilst out on walks. For general wellbeing, it is important that your dog should always have its annual vaccinations to protect against infections and disease. It is also a requirement of our Home Boarding and Day Care licence. Titer testing results are accepted for Distepmer, Parvovirus and Hepatitis, however there is no test for immunity to Leptospirosis so a vaccination is required. Specifically for our business, Parainfluenza (Kennel Cough) is also required annually. You may have to ask your vet for a Kennel Cough vaccination as it is not given automatically. A current vaccination certificate must be shown to us before dropping your dog off for the day, and regular visitors must send an updated certificate each time boosters have been given.
-
How do I book and pay for Day Care?Igoe Dog Walking runs a post-service payment system. We will contact all of our Day Care customers around 20th of the month to ask what Day Care dates they require for the coming month. At the end of the month, customers will receive an invoice for all of the dates booked for that month.
-
What if I need to make a short notice Day Care booking? We will do our very best to accomodate your needs, and if we can accept your dog we will send a confirmation invoice out immediately to secure your booking. If we do not have space, we may be able to help with an Activity Day instead of Day Care so that your dog is not left home alone. We can discuss the details of which Activity Day will suit best when we call you.
-
Does my dog have to be insured? We prefer that dogs are insured, however this is not mandatory. Please note that it is your responsibility to settle or reimburse charges for any treatment or veterinary care on your return.
-
Do you accept dogs that are unneutered?Unneutered adults are not always suitable for home boarding, but will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We understand that larger breed dogs are not able to be neutered until they are fully developed and this can take a bit longer than with a smaller breed. We have several unneutered boys and girls in our client list, however there are some additional considerations. We are not able to accept un-neutered bitches whilst in season, and in the event that they come into season unexpectedly we will need an emergency contact to come and pick them up while you are away. We cannot accept unneutered dogs or bitches that mark in the house. More than one trial may be required before we are able to accept a holiday booking.
-
When do I pay for Home Boarding? You pay a 50% non-refundable booking fee to reserve your dog's space, which is due within 3-5 days of discussing the booking with us. The balance is due on or before arrival, on the first day of Home Boarding. If you cancel your booking, you do not have to pay the balance but the deposit is non-returnable.
-
What do I pack for my dog for Home Boarding? It is important that you bring your dog's vaccination card (or letter of vaccination confirmation) with them for the stay and we also need information on your dog's brand of wormer and flea treatment (and when they were last administered). For visits longer than 2 nights, you may also wish to call your vet and let them know that your dog is staying with a licensed boarder. This means that if we need to call the vet, they will be authorised to discuss your dog with us. Pack all the things that you would supply if you were leaving your dog with a friend or neighbour. Key items are: food, treats, a clean bed and blanket, leads and harnesses, a coat, a drying coat, a toy - and anything else to make your dog’s stay comfortable and familiar. We do not walk dogs on extending / retractable leads, so please make sure that you provide a regular lead. Please note that we often have to do some back to basics training with your dog, as our rules and routines may be a little different to yours at home - so please make sure that you pack training reward treats (small, moist and preferably sugar-free). Special dietary needs are not a problem. There is a freezer available should you wish to bring frozen food or raw meat for your dog's stay. We suggest that you provide instructions on what food or medication should be given and when, and talk this through with us at the introductory meeting or at drop off. We can provide a holiday checklist for your dog to help you. We are happy to purchase or provide anything that you might have forgotten, but please remember to reimburse us when you collect your dog.
-
Does the time that I drop off or collect my dog affect the cost?We charge per day (not per night) and a day begins at 8:00am. If you book your dog from 1st May to 8th May, that is 8 days. If you collect your dog before 8:00am on the last day then you are not charged for that day. We are not at home all through the day (walks etc) so please ensure that you make formal arrangements regarding dropping your dog off and picking up. If you collect your dog earlier than planned, this does not change the booked price (see our cancellation policy for details).
